What a surprise...

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Mid-Atlantic. This is what everyone calls a Philadelphia accent although it's also the accent of south Jersey, Baltimore, and Wilmington. Well, everyone that lives near there, that is. Outsiders can tell you talk differently from them even though they can't tell what your accent is.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

I've been defeated

Shelby and I went out for dinner last night. One of my pet peeves is that she tries to lie down while at a restaurant, knowing of course that it pushes my buttons. Last night I gave her the “Mommy Look of Doom”. Now, while I have been told many of my looks are hard to read, this certainly isn’t one of them. This is the conversation that occurred:

Me: “Shelby, sit up” (with appropriate “Mommy Look of Doom” in full force)
Shelby: Giggle
Me: “Shelby, I’m using the “Mommy Look of Doom” I mean it”
Shelby: “Yeah, but the Mommy Look of Doom is funny”
Me: Broke up laughing
Shelby: “Well, that took care of that problem”

One of those great SCA things

I've done Kingdom scrolls for a few years.  I do AOAs and other miscellaneous award scrolls because i enjoy doing them.  I've received a few verbal "thank you"s and one written note over the years, and that is enough to make me happy to know the recipients enjoy them.   Today, I got a package in the mail.  I had done a scroll for an AOA for Mudthaw and the individual who wrote in the recipient sent me a thank you note and a present.  Too cool!

Bridge to Terabithia

Today we took Shelby to see Bridge to Terabithia.  The advertising of the movie definitely is not what the movie is about.   There were a few very difficult elements in the movie to explain to a seven year old.  I should have checked more on the story before taking her as I had never read the book.

For any interested in the story line before going, the following is a good link.  Warning, it is a spoiler though.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_to_Terabithia

Winter Brawl

Winter Brawl was fantastic yesterday.   It was great to see so many come out for the event.  All the tournaments, which included three divisions of youth combat, and a novice and regular tournament for both heavy and rapier, went really well.  I had a great time watching all the tournaments and having the honor to select the most chivalrous from each, with much thanks to all my assistants in that endeavor.

Mild chaos ensued during the day.  We passed out inflatable dragons to the kids to play with.  Ok, a few of them didn’t quite make it to the kids.  Also, a returning baronial member gave me a most exciting present.  It’s always fun to receive implements to encourage good behavior ;)

Our court was filled with excitement.  We once again caught that rascally pirate with His Excellency’s personal coronet.  One would think that after he tried to abscond with it twelve years ago, he would have learned :)   G was a good sport about it and I’m sure it will lead to many future follies.  Much thanks to our fabulous herald for keeping court organized and moving along in style and our illustrious signet for such beautiful calligraphy on all the scrolls awarded.

Joel and I were both greatly appreciative of the generosity of one of the winners of the tournaments donating his prize to the Barony.  Thank you; it really is a wonderful and most needed addition for our new fighters.

The combined efforts of House Serpentius, House Wilmot, TOAD and Iron Bog made this event an overwhelming success.  We look forward to doing this event again next year.
